Project Scope + Social Systems + Natural Systems
What is unique about this site?
55-5 collaborates with architects and developers to ensure that building designs are deeply woven into the social and ecological context of their site. We partner with biologists and meet with locals and regulators, gathering research that provides a foundation for design work to build on, helping express the unique qualities of a place and identifying ways to improve the natural and social ecosystem. By doing deep dive research into a site's natural systems and social patterns, 55-5 identifies valuable information that makes the design process easier. And when a community recognizes that a project cares about their issues, every project will run more smoothly.
What is the untapped potential of this place?
We look at current, pre-development, and potential ecological conditions, and we meet with community organizations and local institutions to identify stakeholders and initiatives already at play in the neighborhood. We look at what is possible, what synergies are waiting to be tapped, what resources can be shared. We work to understand and move towards the greatest potential of the site, knowing that these efforts will help regenerate the site, the neighborhood and even the larger region.
Goal: the project continues to evolve and gain vitality long after the design team has gone
